The Guide for Blind Walkers

El lazarillo de ciegos caminantes (The Guide for Blind Walkers) is an extensive itinerary that goes from Montevideo to Lima through Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Salta, Potosí, Chuquisaca and Cuzco.
The work offers a very concrete and accurate vision of American life during the colony. It accurately narrates the environment of the cities, the uses, and customs of its inhabitants; and with the same detail, it also relates the routine of rural life.
Until today the authorship of the work has been discussed. But even if it is Don Calixto Bustamante Carlos, alias Concolorcorvo, or Alonso Carrió de la Vandera, what is undeniable is that it represents an irreplaceable testimonial text, where the picaresque mood of the author was not clouded by the precise and true vision of the life and style of the late eighteenth century in these so virgin lands.
