La Guerra de guerrillas (The Guerrilla War) was published in Cuba in 1960. It is a manual that mixes the Guevarist theory of «foquismo» with the Cuban guerrilla experience. He wanted the Marxist insurgent armed groups to find applicable teachings in the territories in which they operate (Latin America, Africa or Asia). The book was translated into English and Portuguese by the CIA and was used by the counterinsurgency forces of the School of the Americas.
Che Guevara said that guerrilla warfare was a useful method against dictatorial governments, although he recommended exhausting the possibilities of legal struggle beforehand.
Guevara dedicated this book to the memory of Camilo Cienfuegos.
