Los empeños de una casa (The Efforts of a House) is to swashbuckling comedy, in which Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz herself participated, leaving her cloistered companions stunned. This work tells the story of two brothers Don Pedro and Doña Ana who live together in Toledo. Both are in love and must go through a series of misunderstandings and entanglements before getting to seduce their loved ones. The argument, typical of the seventeenth century in which the work was written, finds, thanks to the originality of its author, an unpredictable ending where the real and the allegorical meet.
