Popol Vuh

Popol Vuh offers an undoubted literary interest, as much for its rich legendry imagery as for being a work of creation that contemplates the pre-existing Mayan culture and the colonizer.
The Popol Vuh that we know today was written after the Conquest in the Quiché language with Castilian spelling by Christianized natives.
Some scholars indicate that one of the possible authors of the Popol Vuh is Diego Reinoso. And it is believed that it was written between 1554 and 1558, in the ancient capital of the Quichés, Gumarkaaj (Utatlán), today Santa Cruz del Quiché, or in Chuilá (Chichicastenango), a town where the survivors of the Quiché nobility lived after being defeated by Pedro de Alvarado.
