Poems of José María Heredia

The poem «Al salto del Niagara» was interpreted as a metaphor for Cuba’s freedom and desire to break with Spain, the colonial metropolis.
Although José María Heredia was a poet interested in classical forms, he was marked by the melancholy of romanticism and the enjoyment of nature. His passionate temperament is reflected in his two best-known poems: «El Teocalli de Cholula» (1820) and «Al salto del Niagara» (1824).
Edition with a prologue from: Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring.
