Grammar of the Castilian Language 

The Gramática de la lengua castellana (Grammar of the Spanish Language) by Antonio de Nebrija was published in 1492. It was the first grammar book for a Romance language and was meant to ensure the purity of art, as the author saw a direct link between art and language. Language, also, was believed to be a major tool in empire building.
