The Antijovio by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada is a rebuttal of the famous book by Paulo Jovio, Bishop of Nochera, which questioned the performance of Spanish troops in Italy during the Sack of Rome in the time of Carlos V, at the end of the 19th century which Emilia Pardo Bazán called Spanish Black Legend.
Jiménez de Quesada’s Antijovio argues against anti-Spanish propaganda, fueled by the engravings of De Bry, and the rejection of the armed actions carried out by the Spanish Empire during the seventeenth century.
