Works by Francisco de Arango y Parreño II

This edition of the Works of Francisco de Arango y Parreño contains two of his most relevant essays:
The first, Discourse on the agriculture of Havana and means of promoting it (1792); It is a report that analyzes in a global way the characteristics of a manufacturing company from the flow of production, through the workforce, to financing, distribution and markets.
The second, They are great damages of the fact that in Europe the manufacture of refining is done (1794), analyzes the mechanisms used by European metropolises for colonial domination. This was the first critique of mercantilism made in a Spanish colony; For this reason, it is a pioneering work of Hispanic economic thought. Arango y Parreño bets in his works for the industrial elaboration of sugar on the island of Cuba, applying the techniques of his time.
In 1794 Parreño was appointed perpetual syndic of the Royal Consulate of Agriculture and Commerce, installed in 1795 and created at his request, and advisor to the Court of Appeals. In that same year he traveled through Portugal, England, Barbados and Jamaica, with the purpose of studying the economy and development of these countries and their colonies. He returned to Cuba in 1795 and joined the Royal Patriotic Society of Havana, of which he was director (1797-1798). This society promoted agricultural progress in Cuba and the trade of the island’s products. The present Works of Francisco de Arango y Parreño, collect the texts he published in these years.
