The texts collected in Urban Landscapes in Latin America reflect on the image-passage overlap based on the centrality of the city as a capitalizing space of social life in Latin America and the Caribbean, and draw attention to a process that is ultimately highly heterotemporal and asymmetrical in both regional and national terms.
The convergence and overlapping of diverse urban and social development models (pre-colonial, colonial, modern, postmodern and post-colonial); the forms of inscription of a memory and a future, the more or less profound relationships with exophone socio-aesthetic schemes and paradigms; the greater or lesser intensity of internal and external (re)migratory flows; the degrees and diverse forms of miscegenation and hybridity: these are some of the foci from which these essays appropriate, generating themselves landscapes and passages of Latin American cities; crossovers that make the order of the essays a game of infinite possibilities.
