La morisca de Alajuar (1841) is a comedy, structured in three days, written by the Duke of Rivas.

Day one
The action takes place in the kingdom of Valencia at the end of 1509 and the beginning of 1610

Scene I
It represents a pleasant ravine in the vicinity of the town of Alajuar, surrounded by rough mountains. After singing the first four verses inside, ten or twelve young Moorish villagers come out, and behind them, María and Felisa; all with cantarillos, as if they go for water to the fountain

All: (In chorus, inside):
Have no faith or hope
who was not in the presence.

All: (In chorus, inside):
Well, they are oblivion and moving
the conditions of absence.

(They all come in.)

2nd Villager: (Sings): Whoever would like to be loved,
work to be present,
that when he is absent,
So quick will be forgotten.

1st Villager: (Sings): Have no faith or hope
who was not in the presence.

All: (In chorus they sing):
Well, they are oblivion and moving
the conditions of absence.

Duque de Rivas
