Prim is the ninth novel in the fourth series of the National Episodes by Benito Pérez Galdós.
In this installment, Galdós presents the constant intrigues and conspiracies of the last years of the reign of Isabel II, grouped around the figure of General Juan Prim, projecting the doubts of Spanish society on this soldier.
We will meet Santiago Ibero, who escapes from his parents to have adventures and be able to be part of General Prim’s army, but he arrives late because he has gone to Mexico to put order in that country helped by other European nations. In Madrid, Santiago comes into contact, among many other acquaintances of the reader, with Leoncio Ansúrez (Lucila’s brother), but for various reasons ends up in prison. The search for Santiago by his parents gives us pabilo to make a tour of the politics of the time, because this search is done through influences.
In addition, from the hand of Juan Santiuste, the “prophet” of peace, the author recounts the conspiracies of Prim, which culminate in the failed revolt of 1866.
