The History of Tlaxcala narrates the events of the Conquest of Mexico, from the omens of the arrival of the Spaniards, to the events during the mandate of Álvaro Manrique de Zúñiga, seventh viceroy of New Spain.
The first who knew and used this historical source was Fray Juan de Torquemada. In his Indian Monarchy this priest calls it Memoriales of the description of Tlaxcala, and refers to it as a “written relationship of hand”.
Later, Lorenzo Boturini in 1746 mentions it as part of his collection. The original manuscript of the History of Tlaxcala passed to the library of the University of Mexico and in 1836 it was moved to the National Museum. In 1840 Joseph Marius Alexis Aubin took him to France. It is part of the Mexican Manuscript Collection of the National Library of France. Actual is there catalogued as manuscript 210.
Despite their mestizo origin, Diego Muñoz y Camargo considered the Indians inferior to the Spaniards, in all orders. Thus he validated the ideology of the Spanish empire that justified the possession of its American dominions by an alleged cultural superiority.
