History of Cuba

In the early 1920s Ramiro Guerra wrote this History of Cuba. This book collects the history of aboriginal cultures, the formation and evolution of the nation until the dawn of the republic. The project remained unfinished, but the two volumes published ―until 1607―, represented a transcendental advance for Cuban historiography.
The search for signs of a national gestation in that early colonial period, motivated the historian to consult new sources. They took their analysis beyond traditional political events to consider usually neglected social and economic phenomena. Ramiro Guerra then delved into the “deep history” that he considered essential to find the embryos of the Cuban community.

They are classic texts of Cuban historical studies. In the prologue to this last book, Ramiro Guerra said:

“A country can never have one story, but many stories.”
