Constitution of an imaginary Republic

The Constitution of the United Mexican States was approved on October 3, 1824, and was published on October 5, 1824. A few months later appeared Constitution of an imaginary republic, by Lizardi.
José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi, considered that the Magna Carta of Mexicans did not deal with issues of enormous relevance such as religion and the situation of the clergy, the militia, the trades and arts and therefore wrote this book.
The Constitution of an imaginary Republic deals with these issues, the right to citizenship and the usefulness of the citizens of the new republic.

Title One: Of citizens, their rights and privileges

Chapter One. From citizens
Art. l. Citizens are all men who are useful in any way to the Republic, whatever their nation.

Chapter Two: Their Rights and Privileges
Art. 2. The rights of the citizen are the same as those that nature grants us of freedom, and equality, security, and property. In addition, they shall enjoy the active and passive vote, to elect and be elected in public employment, in proportion to their merit, capacity and services done to the country.

Chapter Three: Privileges of Citizens
Art. 3. Every citizen who possesses the said virtues, will be entitled to obtain the offices of the first rank, without ever being required to have income or known wealth, because it is not just that virtue and merit should be punished as crimes for the meanness of fortune, and not to place the virtuous in the employment he deserves, On the pretext that he is poor, it is a real punishment.”
