This new annotated edition of the Che’s Diary in Bolivia (Diario de Bolivia), by his grandson Canek Sánchez Guevara, contains new reflections on the last stage of Che’s life. He clarifies as much as possible the identities of those involved in his guerrilla and the situations that provoked those events.
This edition has about 400 footnotes with abundant historical information. It includes excerpts from the diaries of other guerrillas who were with him in Bolivia. We also present comments from former CIA agents, the Bolivian armed forces and a map that summarizes Che’s route in Bolivia.
Perhaps surprisingly, the most widespread image of the twentieth century does not depict a rock star. Nor to a Hollywood star, much less to a businessman or a successful athlete.
Nor to a poet, a painter, or a scientist. Ernesto Che Guevara did not direct the destiny of a world power. His becoming a global icon was not the result of a media campaign in the strict sense. However, it could be said that it is itself a campaign with a recognizable message: rebellion as a form of social change.
Che is the rebellious man par excellence but he himself was a minister and banker and directed summary trials and executions. It was an icon of voluntarism, the maximum expression of revolutionary action and the axis of the construction of a new society.
